Bryan Newland is a Member of Fletcher, PLLC, a firm based in Lansing, Michigan that provides tribal clients with legal and strategic consulting services on matters ranging from gaming and economic development to land use. Mr. Newland served as a member of President Obama’s Transition Team in 2008 and 2009 and later served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary - Indian Affairs at the Department of the Interior from 2009 through 2012. While at the Interior Department, Mr. Newland provided counsel on Indian gaming and land use issues and helped reform the policies regarding both tribal-state gaming compacts and land-into-trust acquisitions, paving the way for the Department to acquire nearly 200,000 acres of land in trust for Indian tribes. He will speak about the intersection of land and gaming policy under the Obama Administration and provide his unique perspective on how these policies might develop over the next few years.
